Sounds too good to be true? Well partner yoga seems to be the answer. Saif Ali Khan, a regular gym guy, got hooked onto yoga when he tried out partner yoga with his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, already a yoga buff. If you want to try something new with your better half, or want to introduce him or her to the joys of fitness, look no further than this.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lFNZat0G_YE/TtNwNL2mToI/AAAAAAAADZA/aH80SZRNDpA/s1600/celebrity-fitness-partner-yoga.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lFNZat0G_YE/TtNwNL2mToI/AAAAAAAADZA/aH80SZRNDpA/s400/celebrity-fitness-partner-yoga.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680006926866730626" border="0" /></a>What is Partner yoga?<br />Partner yoga is a method through which two people do yoga together. Partner yoga can be done with any one - husband-wife, and also with corporates where it not isn't about intimacy, but more about team building. It builds bond and trust as some poses require you to trust your partner implicitly.<br /><br />Objectives of Partner yoga for couples<br />• To get to know each other on a non-verbal level. This improves the relationship.<br />• To be able to accomplish the postures you think are impossible.<br />• Sharing quality time and physical interaction builds a bond and lets the partner know that you are there.<br /><br />Partner Yoga asanas<br /><br />Trikonasana – In Trikonasana, the couple stands back to back. Once you feel the back of the partner, open your feet wide apart - at least a meter wide. Both partners should point one of their feet outwards on one side. Raise both arms at a shoulder level. If the couple likes they can hold hands and bend to one side. They can then raise the other arm up and look at the upper hand. Make sure the posture is well coordinated and both partners help balance and stretch in the posture.<br /><br />Naukasana - Both partners should sit in front of each other. Then, gently bend both knees, hold each other's hand, touching each others’ feet. As you both feel comfortable slowly start stretching your legs. Make sure your partner is feeling comfortable. Sometimes one person is more flexible then the other. Coordination and understanding between the partners is very important for this posture.<br /><br />Yanasana - One partner lies down on the floor then bends his knees. The other partner comes next to the feet and both hold each other's hands. The person lying down places his/her feet on the pelvic of the standing partner. The standing partner leans forward and the lying down person straightens his/her legs. This posture looks very acrobatic and difficult, but is actually not so tough.<br /><br />So if these three partner yoga poses have you intrigued then may be it's time to take your relationship to the next level. Partner yoga will help both, you and your partner, strengthen your core, improve muscle tone, boost immunity, and discover new aspects of your relationship. Don't forget to attach a regimin of sorts for long term health benefits, and get started with this stylised partner interactive form of yoga today.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-51111215814229485572011-11-28T02:48:00.000-08:002011-11-28T03:18:53.020-08:00Exercises for Lower Back PainWe give you simple exercises to treat lower back ache<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K16rjCNdYmc/TtNt8guOJQI/AAAAAAAADY0/CYhamj05ISg/s1600/lower-back-pain-exercises.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 269px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K16rjCNdYmc/TtNt8guOJQI/AAAAAAAADY0/CYhamj05ISg/s400/lower-back-pain-exercises.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680004441387705602" border="0" /></a><br />Almost everyone suffers from lower back pain at some point or the other. It could be for a variety of reasons and is especially common among adults. It is often caused by overuse and muscle strain or injury.<br /><br />Here are some simple tips that will help you overcome it better...<br /><br />- Avoid positions or activities that increase or cause back pain, use an ice pack when needed and take a painkiller only if you really require it. Most lower back pain gets better when you remain active.<br /><br />- When your pain is getting relatively lesser, you can opt for simple strengthening exercises for your stomach, back, and legs along with some stretching exercises. Exercise not only helps you recover quicker, it also prevents re-injury to your back.<br /><br />- Remember that you should get active gradually once you're recovering from pain and slowly increase your activity level. Very little activity will lead to loss of flexibility, strength, endurance levels and eventually pain again.<br /><br />- Avoid sleeping on your stomach because when your stomach sags downward, it arches your back, increases the lumbar curve and gives you pain. Sleeping on your back will be as uncomfortable. Experts, therefore, suggest sleeping on the side with your legs bent at the knees. This minimises spinal stress by straightening the lumber curve. Try and place a pillow under your knee - this pulls your hips upwards, flattening the lumbar curve and reducing the tension in the area.<br /><br />- Pay attention to how you sit and stand - bad posture is often the main culprit. Don't slouch when you sit and don't hunch when you stand.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-77901740214613810742011-11-28T02:41:00.000-08:002011-11-28T02:44:11.270-08:00Benefits of Balance & Core Workout ExercisesBalance and core workout exercises are misunderstood the world over as people think that they only help in developing six-pack abs.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WkMqv8rldbg/TtNltjJbAxI/AAAAAAAADYo/HGicKSNjqJ0/s1600/balance-and-core-workout-exercises.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 269px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WkMqv8rldbg/TtNltjJbAxI/AAAAAAAADYo/HGicKSNjqJ0/s400/balance-and-core-workout-exercises.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5679995388247606034" border="0" /></a>However, outward appearances are a small part of the core and balance workouts. The core actually consists of many different muscles that stabilize the spine and pelvis, running through the entire length of the torso, front and back. A strong base of balance and core workouts prepare you for powerful movement in exercising. Today, Bangalore-based body transformation expert, Wanitha Ashok helps us decode the importance of balance and core workouts<br /><br />Core exercises improve your balance and stability: Core workouts are most important and least addressed by most. The core is known as the power house of the system as this is where movements generate from .The strong core also protects the lower back from taking impact and allows a person to work efficiently by keeping them injury free. It also improves balance and stability as most core exercises are based on balance engaging the core. With due course of time, stability is improved too.<br /><br />Core exercises can help tone your abs: It tones the mid section as it's basically an isolation workout of the muscles. It tightly packs the muscles in the abs area and visually gives a feeling of weight loss. And these exercises can be done everyday unlike other weight training exercises. You can chose from 2- 3 different exercises and you will require about 5 minutes of your time to get fit and strong in the mid section.<br /><br />Strong core muscles make it easier to do most physical activities: The limbs are connected to the core and movements depend on the core, thus filling you up with energy all day long. A strong core can make you work faster, harder and longer.<br /><br />Tips for being cautious during core exercises: It's good to execute the workout in front on a mirror so corrections can be made in alignment. The most important factor is to activate the abdominal muscle during execution .This can be done by coughing once and holding the contraction that happens when you cough. Square the hips and shoulders to engage the pelvic floor. The basic know hows to align and execute the exercise are very important. Therefore, taking guidance from a qualified fitness professional is important.<br /><br />Core exercises don't require specialized equipment or a gym membership: We can do core and balance workouts at the comfort of our home at any time. And it does not take much time. No equipments are required to work on strengthening the core. However, performing core workouts at the gym sets the right mood. Beginners must take care to workout under the guidance of the professional trainer as some core exercises require alignment and balance.<br /><br />Let's look at three at-home core strength exercises:<br /><br />Super man: Lie face down on the floor with arms stretched. Raise the right arm and left leg above the ground, hold for 3 seconds and relax.<br /><br />Plank: Lie face down, with forearms and toes on the floor and a straight torso. Set your eyes on the floor. Hold this position for 10 seconds. Relapse.<br /><br />Supine bridge: Lie flat on the floor with eyes set on the ceiling. Align feet under your knees and hands just outside and under shoulders. Now push your hips up till you have a straight line right from your knees to shoulders. Maintain a straight line posture as far as possible.<br /><br />Courtsey: Times of India.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-7777866116887585812011-11-28T02:33:00.000-08:002011-11-28T02:36:35.168-08:00Short Ways to Burn Fat Fast & Be Fit & HealthyIt takes great determination to lose weight. The fat has just been adding up for months or years, as the case may be. However, don't kill yourself with a mean crash diet to get into a bikini, simply follow our expert-backed tips to fall into shape.<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YzHjFGm3s5A/TtNjwBqwsQI/AAAAAAAADYc/PS9FuO3xOtI/s1600/fitness-exercise-pose.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 269px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YzHjFGm3s5A/TtNjwBqwsQI/AAAAAAAADYc/PS9FuO3xOtI/s400/fitness-exercise-pose.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5679993231776985346" border="0" /></a>'How to get started' is a major cause of concern. Whether it is sweating it out at the gym or going for long jogs, it is a tough call for most fitness novices. At such a juncture it is imperative to understand your body and its fitness requirement. And accordingly zero in on a work-out routine. We take a look at five fast fat burning moves...<br /><br />Cardio exercises<br />Cardios are the best form of exercise for beginners. There is no refuting the fact that to blast calories you need to break a sweat. A lean body can never be yours without sweating out the excess flab. And cardio exercises help you achieve just that; they boost your stamina, make you energetic and flexible to take up an even rigorous fitness regime. Running on the treadmill, cross-trainer, cycling, swimming and skipping are the most popular forms of cardio. While a treadmill exercises the whole body, cross-trainers are for the hips and thighs. You can even go for the cycling option at a gym; there are two kinds of cycles, one for thighs and the other for thighs and stomach.<br /><br />Diet<br />Once you have set up a routine, gradually cut down on red meat, fries, butter, cheese and junk food of every kind. Take a good dose of water depending on your body requirement. Coconut water and fresh fruit juices too can be taken post meals.<br /><br />Spinning<br />One might complain of lack of variety in a spinning class, as the exercise routine can get a tad monotonous. However, spinning is a wonderful way to burn calories and keeps your muscles toned. Agreed, cycling in the open is a far viable option as it lets you enjoy the local sights and take in fresh air, but rainy season and foggy winters can put a dampener on your fitness schedule. Request your trainer to come up with varied routines to keep up the interest. At a spinning studio, with the help of background music and varied lighting, a soothing and happy atmosphere is recreated. Not to mention, spinning works best when alternated with cardio exercises. It helps lose fat and build muscles. You can do 30-45 minutes of non-stop spinning once in eight days, if you are combining it with cardio.<br /><br />Diet<br />Food intake should be half of your normal diet. You can consume small portions of all kinds of food you like, but say no to fries, butter and cheese.<br /><br />Trapeze workout<br />The form of workout is named after the lesser-known trapeze muscle which all of us have, but isn't very prominent. Trapeze muscles are connected at either ends to the collar bone and hence move parts of the skeleton. Little wonder, fitness addicts and body builders sport such a neat shoulder and neck line. To chisel out your trapeze muscles, the 'Dumbbell shrugs' and 'Barbell shrugs' are most effective. The former flexes your side form, while the latter is for the front form. It is to be noted that trapeze exercises are not for beginners, as it requires an already lean body. A few months of rigorous cardio and spinning can have you ready for trapeze. Outside of building swoon-worthy muscles, it helps keep sinus and cervical disorders at bay. A healthy trapeze routine requires each body part be exercised twice a week.<br />Diet<br /><br />A wholesome diet, but avoid greasy and junk food at any cost. Drink plenty of water, fresh fruit juices and coconut water.<br /><br />Aerobics and resistance training<br />Such an exercise routine is best practiced at a fitness club under the guidance of expert trainers who understand your fitness level better. Resistance and flexibility exercises help increase stamina, and if rigorously followed, bring you in shape. Resistance is a set of weight lifting exercises, while flexibility is for the lower body. With music in the backdrop, aerobic exercises are a fun way to burn extra fat and get fitter. It facilitates a great deal of interaction with your fellow practitioners and one could also pick up some interesting routines together. To achieve best results, do resistance workout at least thrice a week. Warm up with a set of cardio exercises such as jumping and skipping to build stamina. You burn more calories by alternating aerobics with resistance and flexibility exercises.<br />Diet<br />Avoid food with high carbohydrate content such as potato, banana etc. If you like eating rice, take a small portion in the afternoon. Simply keep away from all kinds of fried stuff.<br /><br />Pilates<br />Pilates is also a kind of aerobic exercise which entails a whole set of routines on the floor - on a mat. Group classes are conducted at a fitness club, where the trainer shows new routines on a regular basis, depending on the ability of the students. After a basic two-day training, the body status of the student is decided and a goal is fixed for the week. Pilates exercises the whole body and burns calories. There are as many as one hundred routines for the abs only. While you are free to buy tapes and practice Pilates in your living room, the knowledge of a live trainer and his ability to access your body strength cannot be negated either. Ideally, about four kilograms a month is the healthiest way to shed weight.<br />Diet<br />A wholesome diet, but avoid greasy and junk food at any cost. Drink plenty of water, juices and coconut water. Not to mention, carbohydrate-rich food should be taken only occasionally.<br /><br />Time you slipped into your track pants and broke some sweat.<br /><br />Courtsey: times of India.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-7948356613372443062011-06-30T04:05:00.000-07:002011-06-30T04:06:50.314-07:00AcroYoga: flying, fun and wellbeingWith AcroYoga, you can feel yourself fly, literally! Established in San Francisco Bay in 2003 by two Californians, Jason Nemer and Jenny Sauer-Klein, AcroYoga mixes three, previously very separate, ancestral disciplines: yoga, acrobatics and Thai massage.<br /><br /><p><img src="http://l.yimg.com/jj/c764fd8b5dc1aeceb391d1ee5a4e1d7e" alt="AcroYoga: flying, fun and wellbeing" title="AcroYoga: flying, fun and wellbeing" /> <br />A kind of fusion of styles, AcroYoga is centred around practising yoga poses in the air with a partner, according to the principles of acrobatics and the pressure techniques from Thai massage. This unusual type of yoga helps you realise your dreams of a supple and toned body, as well as reaching a positive state of mind.</p> <p>An innovative discipline, AcroYoga is catering to a new public – with a more community spirit and dynamic approach.</p> <h2>AcroYoga: everyone into a circle </h2><p>“Team spirit is at the centre of this discipline,” says Yohann Guichard, an AcroYoga teacher at Beyoga studios in Paris. This is why everyone is arranged in a circle around the instructor. There is an element of play in the opening of the class where everyone introduces themselves by their first name... and then presents a pose that best represents them. The rest of the class adopts this pose in response, by way of a ‘hi there’ – a unique way to make someone’s acquaintance!</p> <p>Warm ups follow, with a special emphasis on alignment. “To best carry out these positions that hold the partner on the hands and feet, you need to follow some specific skeletal alignment principles to ensure you find your balance,” explains Yohann. The more the body finds its alignment while still on the ground, the easier it will be to practise the AcroYoga poses once actually ‘in the air’.</p> <h2>Flying yoga, in detail </h2><p>Far from being an individual exercise, learning AcroYoga requires a team of 3 people: the base (bottom position), the flyer (the top position) and the spotter (who ensures the positions are safe). “Emphasis is placed on security in order to create the best conditions for learning,” clarifies Yohann Guichard.</p> <p>Two main aspects lie at the heart of AcroYoga: the acrobatic and the therapeutic. The <em>acrobatic element</em> involves learning the asanas, or yoga poses, upright or balancing on your partner’s hands and feet. In the meantime, the <em>therapeutic element</em> is based on the stretches, another benefit of yoga, combined with the pressure points of Thai massage, applied by the person in the ‘base’ position.</p> <p>Most of the time, the session puts emphasis on one of the two participants only. All the same, the meeting of the two people ensures that the therapeutic nature of the practice is assured. How? Yohann Guichard explains, “Acrobatic ‘support’ demands really toned muscles, in contrast to the therapeutic ‘flying’, which is based more on relaxation.’ The two compliment each other and thus benefit both body and mind.</p> <p>Another aspect of AcroYoga worth noting, whether the participants are big or small, is that the roles reverse. You get to play both acrobat and support. “Of course, we take care to pair up people who are the same size,” Yohann Guichard is careful to point out. Otherwise, ouch!</p> <h2>Good reasons to really go for AcroYoga</h2><p>You don’t have to be a total yoga bunny, but, of course, that will certainly help. Beginners are accepted and will quickly feel the benefits. This acrobatic type of yoga really strengthens muscles right from the first few classes, thanks to the ‘base’ position. At the same time, the acrobatic part of the class develops suppleness and a more responsive body.</p> <p>The experts are adamant that: “Though you can feel very apprehensive at first, the first experience as the ‘flyer’ is incredibly liberating.” In the long term, you’ll become more confident in yourself and improve your ability to concentrate.</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-53978908067926382452011-06-27T22:33:00.000-07:002011-06-27T22:40:53.232-07:00The top 10 Best Exercises: Photos<b>Best for chest exercise: the push-up exercise</b><br /><h3 style="text-align: right;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 16px; font-weight: normal; "><img alt="http://l.yimg.com/i/i/any/pushu2.jpg" src="http://l.yimg.com/i/i/any/pushu2.jpg" /></span></h3><p>The push-up wins hands down (if you’ll excuse the pun!). While the bench press is a great alternative, most of us don’t lift as much weight in the bench press as we do in the push-up. In one study, researchers found that <strong>66.4 per cent of total body weight is lifted in a full push-up</strong>. So if you weigh, say, 65kg, that means you’ll be lifting 43kg, which is probably more than you would normally attempt in a bench press. Also, you will get added challenge for the core stabilizers in the face-down position of a push-up. A quick research fact for you: <strong>Truman State University found no difference between dumbbell or barbell chest press efficacy</strong>, but recorded less muscle activity in the major chest muscles in a pec fly exercise.</p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> bench press.</p> <h3><strong>Best exercise for glutes: the squat</strong></h3> <p>You are spoilt for choice when it comes to exercises that work the <strong>glutes (i.e. your buttocks)</strong> – but according to research by the American Council on Exercise, the squat always wins out. The research recorded that the most muscle activity in the gluteus maximus – <strong>the main muscle of the glutes</strong> – occurred during squats, but only when testers went to 90 degrees or lower. This is because the deeper a squat is, the more muscle fibers it fires in the gluteus maximus. However, when you’re doing squats you should only go as low as you can comfortably – and you should also <strong>start with light weights.</strong></p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> The ACE study also found remarkably high muscle activation in the glutes in an aerobics class favourite, the quadruped. This is the exercise where you <strong>start on all fours and then raise one leg</strong>, keeping the knee bent, so that the lower leg points directly up at the ceiling.</p><p align="center">[<strong>See also:</strong> <a href="http://yhoo.it/mnRYMV">When's the best time for your work out?</a>] </p> <h3><strong>Best exercise for abs: the bicycle maneuver</strong></h3> <p>Those nice folk at ACE got together with San Diego State University to put ab exercises under the spotlight. Their combined study compared an array of popular tummy-trimming moves – including crunches, reverse crunches and the plank – and the results were surprising, given that many exercise classes devote the entire ab section to crunch-type moves. The results showed that the most muscle activity in the obliques and rectus abodminis – i.e. the six-pack and the muscles of the waist – occurred during the bicycle maneuver, in which a person extends each leg alternately and twists the opposite shoulder towards the knee as the leg comes back in.</p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> Crunch on a stability ball. This is far more effective than any floor-based crunch or curl exercise.</p> <h3><strong>Best exercise for the back: the lateral pull-down</strong></h3> <p>Research in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that a ‘wide overhand grip’ lateral pull-down was the best exercise to do to get a <strong>stronger, shapelier back</strong>. And if you’re wondering about the ‘behind the head’ or ‘to the chest’ quandary, bear in mind that the fibers of the lats (muscles in the back) run obliquely – not straight down – so bringing the bar to the chest follows the line of pull more directly.</p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> ‘Single arm bent over’ row with dumbbell.</p> <h3><strong>Best exercise for hamstrings: the step-up, quadruped or ball curl</strong></h3> <p>The ACE study that assessed glute activation also looked at hamstrings, and found that the best moves for hamstrings were step-ups and quadrupeds. However, to improve this set of muscles you could also try a ball curl – which will hone in on your hamstrings in addition to challenging your core stabilizers. To do this, <strong>put your feet on a Swiss ball, dig your heels in, lift your body off the floor, and form a straight line from your shoulders to your feet</strong>. Then roll the ball towards your buttocks by bending your knees. Pause, then roll out again, and repeat this action until you reach fatigue.</p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> deadlift with straight legs.</p> <p><strong>Best exercise for upper arms:</strong> the triceps kickback<br />When it comes to upper arms, most people think immediately about the biceps (the ‘Popeye’ muscle!), which runs along the front of the arm. But actually, the triceps is a much bigger muscle, and working it will make the overall appearance of the arm firmer, tighter and bigger. <strong>One of the best exercises to do to improve this muscle is the triceps dip</strong> – but since using the perfect technique in the dip is so crucial in order to protect the shoulder joints, try the triceps kickback instead, where you can’t really go wrong! To do this exercise, stand side-on to a support with the closest knee and hand on the support. Take a dumbbell in the other hand and bring your bent elbow up to your side. This is the start position. Now straighten the arm, taking the dumbbell up behind you, but keeping the upper arm ‘glued’ to your side. Use the heaviest weight you can, while maintaining good technique, as research found that the <strong>medial head of the triceps did most of the work</strong> – rather than the whole muscle – when only light weights were used.</p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> Dips. If you decide to do these, get some advice on good technique beforehand.</p> <h3><strong>Best exercise for thighs: the squat or lunge</strong></h3> <p>The exercise that comes out best for thighs in most studies is the squat – and your thighs will be doing more work if you don’t squat very deep. However, to add some <strong>variety to your program</strong>, and to work each thigh independently (to prevent imbalances), lunges come a close second. Take your lunges to the front, rather than the rear, for maximum thigh involvement.</p> <p><strong><em>Best exercise alternative:</em></strong> The step-up.</p> <h3><strong>Best for waist: the side bridge</strong></h3> <p>You often see people in the gym doing side bends with a dumbbell to tone up the waist area. But this exercise will actually shorten the obliques – effectively contributing towards you losing your waist! To tighten the muscles and reduce your risk of back pain, try the side bridge instead. Lie on your side with knees and hips stacked – the top leg directly over the bottom one – and your weight resting on the lower elbow. <strong>Bend the bottom leg to a right angle at the knee</strong> while keeping the hips on top of one another. Then lift your body up so that your weight is supported by the lower part of the bottom leg and the elbow only. Consciously draw the side of your waist that is closest to the floor up towards the center of your body. <strong>Don’t let your bottom stick out, and keep your abdominals contracted.</strong></p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> Sideways sit-ups using a Swiss ball.</p> <h3><strong>Best exercise for hips: the single-leg squat</strong></h3> <p>Here’s an exercise that might not be in your usual repertoire! Research at San Diego State University found that the single-leg squat was the move that most challenged the gluteus medius, or the muscle in the hip. To do this, stand on one leg and extend your floating leg slightly in front. <strong>Then bend your supporting leg, ensuring your knee comes over your toe</strong> and doesn’t roll in. It’s okay for your torso to hinge forward a little – but don’t even think of doing the exercise with a weight!</p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> Side-lying leg raises.</p> <h3><strong>Best for shoulders exercise: the lateral shoulder raise</strong></h3> <p>The shoulder muscle (the deltoids) consists of three heads: medial, anterior and posterior. The posterior part of the muscle assists in exercises such as the seated row and reverse fly, while the anterior portion is active virtually every time the chest muscles are working (such as in push-ups and bench pressing). But the area that you need to target specifically is the <strong>medial head</strong>. To do this, try the lateral shoulder raise. <strong>Stand with a dumbbell in each hand and lean forward 10 to 20 inches from the hips</strong>. Press your arms out to the side with your elbows slightly bent, leading with the little fingers, and stop at 90 degrees. Note that although you are directly engaging the medial head, the anterior and posterior heads will also contribute to this move.</p> <p><strong><em>Best alternative exercise:</em></strong> Overhead press.</p> <h3><strong>Doing what’s best for your body</strong></h3> <p>By doing the best exercises for each part of your body, as described here, you will be more likely to improve your major muscle groups. However, you should remember that variety is key when it comes to resistance training – so make sure you always do a variety of exercises for each part of your body, and <strong>exercise a number of different parts</strong> of your body rather than focus on one particular part all the time.</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-47102988434858189192011-04-29T19:52:00.000-07:002011-04-29T20:22:24.819-07:00Sex Tips for Busy People<div>You're finally earning a 6-digit salary, your career's on fast-track. It's tough but you're managing to squeeze in a 45-minute workout three times a week. You also ran your first marathon this year- and can't wait for the next.</div><div><br /></div><div>In this dream scenario, fit in a forever blinking Blackberry, everyday pressures and a working wife (that = work stress x 2) an increasing number of urban Indian couples are losing their sex lives to ambition and success. Here's how you can avoid the trap...</div><div><br /></div><div>Remember when you first had a steady girlfriend you couldn't keep your hands off? Your single mates envied your persistent public displays of affection and you'd gloat over those sneaky-quickies that followed. You hated parental restrictions for getting in the way of a five-minute under-the-shirt action and fantasised about a married life, minus the rules and packed with lust. You thought this lust would last forever, didn't you?</div><div><br /></div><div>Now picture this reality. You're home from a 12-hour workday and an hour-long commute to find her on a conference-call, making throatslitting gestures to her absent boss while you collapse in an exhausted heap on the couch. Forget your favourite wine, you're seriously thinking about drinking a glass of milk every night, you've been told it'll help you sleep. Sex? Shudder- you're almost praying for her to have a headache!</div><div><br /></div><div>It isn't an exaggeration to say the sex lives of urban couples is in crisis mode these days. Workplaces from hell, killer commutes, bills and loans, snarky colleagues and 24/7 cricket on ESPN, none of it is geared to make you feel sexy. You're not alone.</div><div><br /></div><div>According to a recent survey in the US by the National Sleep Foundation, one in four Americans who're married/living with someone say they're mostly too tired to have sex. "I would even say it's an epidemic," said Peter Fraenkel, a New York-based couples therapist, in an interview to CBS's 48 Hours. Another survey reports that nearly half of all married couples in the US have sex only between once and thrice a month.</div><div><br /></div><div>Yet, sex is a basic need and it's critical to a relationship-not to mention, it's a ton of fun! What you need, then, are ways to factor sex into your life without feeling you're ticking off another task on your bottomless to-do list. Start here!</div><div><br /></div><div>1. Planning is underrated</div><div>Do you show up at airports without booking a flight? No. Leave hotel reservations on vacation to chance? No. Hell, do you show up at a client's without an appointment? Naah. Fact is, planning pays big dividends. Yet, when it comes to sex, planning is considered unexciting. What's really unexciting, however, is the 'spontaneous' sex you're never having but want to nonetheless.</div><div><br /></div><div>You don't have to detail every aspect of your sex lives ahead of time, but figuring out with your partner how often you both ideally want sex, then working towards making time for it, is hardly rocket science. There's no right and wrong frequency, just what works for the two of you. "My wife and I have been married five years and recently we found we simply weren't getting it on for weeks.</div><div><br /></div><div>She was tired or I was, or we had social commitments that exhausted us post-work. I panicked-I mean, I was barely 30 and it looked like my sex life was over! We talked it over and have made a zero-tolerance rule ever since-Friday nights are ours alone. We don't go to parties, events or anywhere else. The only time the rule is broken is if one of us is travelling on work, or if either's parents have anniversaries/birthdays," says Rohan Nadkarni, 31, a Mumbai-based commodities trader.</div><div><br /></div><div>"Friends made fun of us in the beginning and there was whining when we didn't show up at a pal's dinner or birthday, but over time everyone respects our choice. We go out to dinner or grab takeaways together-sometimes we'll stay in and cook, talk, open a bottle of wine. It's just the perfect, low-stress way to start a weekend. And most Fridays, we're having sex! Sure, we know it ahead of time. But that only makes it better when, Friday evening I'm driving home from work and I know what the evening-and the whole night- has in store," he laughs.</div><div><br /></div><div>Have kids? Make one day a week non-negotiable for the two of you, and ignore anyone who says otherwise. Kids who grow up with parents that act like a couple, not just 'mom-dad', are way likelier to have a positive view of relationships in the future.</div><div><br /></div><div>2. Stay edgy</div><div>We've all heard the homily about sex being between the ears and not between the legs; that's as true today as it was when you first heard it. Sex is the outcome of attraction, and attraction isn't a cactus plant-it won't grow on air and water alone.</div><div><br /></div><div>It needs all the signs you first showed when you started dating-you stayed fit, dressed hot, laughed often, surprised her, flirted with her publicly, held her hand or put your arm around her waist. You played footsie under tables and had private jokes that no-one else got. You made out in the car and sometimes at parties in the dark. Your connection was intimate, naughty, urgent.</div><div><br /></div><div>Sure, the urgency will recede, and the need to impress won't be allconsuming. And that's a good thing, it spells the end of initial insecurities about each other. What isn't good? Losing the intimacy that went with it. You can have one without the other, though. Touch each other, make certain gestures or conversations intimate instead of routine, and see how you can keep things simmering.</div><div><br /></div><div>"I read something in a magazine once that sounded so simple, I didn't see how it could matter," reveals Sanjukta Shankar, 27, Gurgaon-based interior designer who's been dating boyfriend Amit Jindal, 30, for five years.</div><div><br /></div><div>"It said touch each other even when there's no need to; like, if I wanted my boyfriend to give me the car keys, for instance, I should reach into his pocket for them instead of asking. So I did; we were at this bar with friends, and I deliberately slid my hands into the back pocket of his jeans to ostensibly get the keys. You will not believe how his eyes widened," she grins. "He was far more 'aware' of me the rest of that evening." That awareness is what keeps you tuned into each other physically.</div><div><br /></div><div>3. Sex-up the setting</div><div>If Arnab Goswami is the soundtrack to your bedroom encounters, it may explain why you're not in the mood very often. Sexy is a state of mind, even more so for women, who're very sensitive to atmosphere. No, that doesn't mean you turn into a sop with a frilly pink bedroom, but you certainly need to work at setting the tone for a relaxed, seductive space. A few small touches-chillout music, intimate lighting, a couple of candles-go a long way, with little effort.</div><div><br /></div><div>The bigger challenge? Keeping your bedroom a no-TV zone; ditto for laptops and other stress-inducing gadgets. As for the Blackberry? Keep it on silent and out of arm's reach post 10pm if you want to have any kind of sex life at all!</div><div><br /></div><div>This isn't all psycho-babble. As early as 30 years ago, Alvin Toffler, legendary futurist, warned us of information overload in his bestselling book Future Shock. Arguing that the human brain has a fi nite ability to process information, he demonstrated that unless we consciously limit how much information we access every day, mental and physical stress are inevitable. And as research has repeatedly shown, the first thing to take a hit when stress strikes a couple's life? Sex!</div><div><br /></div><div>To prevent your sex life from becoming a victim of information overload, consciously turn your bedroom into a purely leisure zone.</div><div><br /></div><div>4. Get creative</div><div>Half the battle is won when you can get your mind primed to think about sex often, despite a stressed-out, packed schedule. A trick that works? Turn it into a creativity game with your partner. Have a 'sexy' shelf/drawer (lockable, please, unless you'd like to give a nosy maid the shock treatment) in your bedroom to aid creativity: Start with a variety of condoms; lube; a silk scarf; erotic DVDs or even literature; a sex toy or two, if that works for you. Agree that each of you needs to add 'elements' to the shelf on a monthly basis; it'll keep you both thinking of creative things you can use in the bedroom, and put sex front-and-centre on the agenda.</div><div><br /></div><div>"My girlfriend and I had great sex, but it was fairly typical," says Neeraj Dutt, 38, partner in a New Delhibased consulting fi rm. "Then, on a trip to Germany, I was transiting at Frankfurt airport and saw a 'naughty' shop. I strolled in out of curiosity and it was, of course, a fetishist's dream. The store attendants and other customers were so blase that it gave me the nerve to pick up a fun pair of handcuffs," he laughs. "To be honest, it's been three months and we haven't used them yet, but just bringing them home to Ritika (his girlfriend) has sparked things up hugely. We tease each other about how we'll use them; and who gets to go first."</div><div><br /></div><div>The benefits aren't limited to the bedroom alone, though. "Sharing something quirky or intimate like this totally makes you closer, it's like a dirty secret only the two of you know," says Neeraj. "Ritika and I have this innuendo thing going on, sometimes even in company, all based on the handcuffs, except no-one else gets the jokes but us. It's sexy and fun, and I'm constantly amazed how one impulse buy has shaken things up so much for us."</div><div><br /></div><div>5. Quickies exist for a reason</div><div>Yes, we've always said sex is something to savour, to bring pleasure and intimacy to your lives. But when your choices are no sex or the instant version? The latter, every single time! You find time to have a shower, read the paper, watch the news or make a couple of quick calls to friends, don't you? Then you've got time for a quickie. And having a quickie doesn't mean one of you is always shortchanged-make a deal where you focus on your pleasure one time, hers the next.</div><div><br /></div><div>Tip: If sex is always the last thing slotted into your day, it'll invariably get struck off the list, because your body and mind are both typically drained by then. Morning sex, in-the-shower sex, beforedinner sex, got-to-go-out-and-buy-groceries sex; a quickie is great precisely because you can fit it in without needing large doses of time and intimacy. Take the hint and prioritise the act.</div><div><br /></div><div>6 Make life simpler</div><div>Sometimes, the solution to being too busy or too tired for sex is simply to lessen the load. Sex isn't an add-on, something you fi t in after everything else is done. Instead, if mundane logistics are getting in the way of getting it on, cut some of them out and make your sex life the priority. Wife/girlfriend constantly tired because she gets home from work and hits the kitchen?</div><div><br /></div><div>Fix two nights a week to order takeaway and give her some downtime. Nephews and neices running riot all evening? Bribe a young cousin to come look after them while you whisk her off for a real 'date'. You head to the gym for a rigorous session every evening? Sacrilege, I know, but cut it down to four times a week and give yourself a breather. You'll be setting the sheets afire.</div><div><br /></div><div>Courtsey:lifestyle.yahoo.com</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-92136592959221799712011-04-15T02:45:00.000-07:002011-04-15T02:52:22.133-07:00Hot Yoga Celebrities: Hottest Actress Doing Yoga for Fitness<div style="text-align: justify;">Here are few Bollywood Actress as well as Hollywood Actress who are doing Yoga for their fitness. One of the most common reasons why people begin practicing yoga is to improve their health and well-being. Yoga means union. It is a union of the mind, body and breath, so all aspects of your life are impacted by your practice.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>A Major Benefit of Yoga Is Physical.</b></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Improves Your Flexibility:</b></div><div>The stretching that you engage in during every practice helps lengthen and stretch muscles, which helps reduce the risk of injuries.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Improve Your Balance:</b></div><div>The majority of yoga practices include some type of balancing in the poses. A significant number of people, especially as they began to get older, start to have problems with balance, which can lead to major injuries due to falls. By having a greater sense of balance, you are able to move more easily and safely.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Can Help Reduce Pain:</b></div><div>Tense muscles often contribute to pain. Relaxing muscles helps to minimize muscle tension and the pain that is associated with it. Also, breathing deeply into muscles helps lessen pain by altering your perception of it.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Tones Your Muscles:</b></div><div>Yoga works all the muscles in your body. It helps strengthen and tone them and also builds endurance and stamina.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Helps to Increase Your Level of Energy:</b></div><div>Carrying tension in your body takes an enormous toll on your energy reserves. By learning how to relax through your yoga practice, you benefit by enjoying higher levels of energy so you can more thoroughly enjoy your daily activities.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Helps Promote A Sense of Relaxation:</b></div><div>Most people breathe high in their chests. This not only does not allow them to get sufficient oxygen, it also triggers the stress response, which contributes to feelings of anxiety. Breathing deeply as practiced in yoga, helps relax your muscles and also brings much needed oxygen to your cells. The deep sense of relaxation also leads to better quality sleep.</div><div><br /></div><div>Each yoga practice ends with some type of relaxation. Since your body and mind are one, by relaxing your body you also relax your mind. Many yoga experts believe that a relaxation pose is the most beneficial pose in any yoga practice.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Another Benefits of Yoga Is Mental.</b></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Clears Your Mind & Helps You Focus Your Attention:</b></div><div>During your practice, you are focusing your attention on your breath and turning inward. This concentration allows you to withdraw from the distractions in your environment. A significant benefit of yoga practice is that you can take this ability to focus your attention into every aspect of your life.</div><div><br /></div><div>You can be fully present with whatever you are doing instead of worrying about tomorrow or regretting yesterday. Not only will your actions be more productive, you can also enjoy them in a greater way.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Helps Reduces Stress:</b></div><div>Deep breathing helps reduce the hormones that are released when you are feeling overwhelmed, overloaded, and frazzled. The internal focus that accompanies the poses helps create a relaxation response in your body.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Yoga Can Help Release Stuck Emotions:</b></div><div>Often stuck emotions find their way into our bodies. Remember, your mind and body are one, and if you are suppressing any painful emotions, you will often experience that as pain in some part of your body. A benefit of yoga is that by breathing deeply into places in your body that hold tension, you can help release the emotions that may be buried there. You can then examine these emotions and let go of those that do not serve you. </div><div><br /></div><div>Also, as you take your body past the limits of where it has been, you start to feel that you can move past other limitations in your life as well.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>You Gain A Sense of Peace & Tranquility:</b></div><div>Most yoga practices include some time for meditation. Regular meditation helps your mind reach a state of inner calm. It helps you gain control over your thinking instead of being at the mercy of wayward thoughts.</div><div><br /></div><div>As you can see, the benefit of yoga has far reaching effects in every area of your life. Maintain a regular yoga practice, and you will see for yourself, how yoga can benefit you too.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-16106700700190872232010-04-06T03:09:00.000-07:002010-04-06T03:17:51.255-07:00How To Lose Weight?: Lose Weight Tips, Diet Plan & Fitness TipsAching to lose weight and don't know how to start..? Very Good. What About These Guys? Who Are They? Guess!!!!<br /></b><br /><div>Any Guess !!!!!!!!!!!! </div><div>Yeah... They are Software engineers, Bankers, Accountants, COnsultants, Who work for 15 hours a day, Sitting at one place.<br /><br />Don't laugh. Be Aware. It is a global issue now. So, take care of yourself and your FITNESS.<br /><br /><div>To get to a good shape...try to adhere to the following 20 tips </div><div><br /></div><div>1. Have you tried to give up sugar and havent succeeded? Instead of forbidding yourself certain foods - just eat less of them. If you must have sugar in your tea, cut it down from two spoons to one.</div><div><br /></div><div>2. Ever notice how if you eat when you're ravenous, you tend to overeat? So try eating more regularly, even if it means more frequently. Eat an average of 5 small meals a day, instead of 2 or 3 large ones, where you stuff yourself.</div><div><br /></div><div>3. Be conscious about what you eat. Keep a food diary and note down everything you eat. You may be shocked at the results.</div><div><br /></div><div>4. Eat or snack only on the dinner table, not on the couch in front of your television. Once you make a policy out of this, you'll cut down on snacks tremendously. Don't get too comfortable while eating. Its always better to eat on the go. Always sit straight on the chair.</div><div><br /></div><div>5. Make rules for yourself. If you experience cravings, give yourself ten minutes before you attack the refrigerator. In most cases, the craving would just die down and you'd walk away.</div><div><br /></div><div>6. Drink a lot of water. This reduces hunger pangs and gives you more energy.</div><div><br /></div><div>7. When you decide to finally attack your weight problem, you want it gone by the weekend. But realise that that is just not a realistic approach. If you want it off permanently, you've got to take it slow. It may even take up to a year to get to your desired weight - that's fine, because you've got more of a chance of maintaining it.</div><div><br /></div><div>8. Join an aerobics class. It's more disciplined and it's always better to work out in a group.</div><div><br /></div><div>9. Stay busy. Don't just sit around wasting time. Chances are your mind will wander to that delicious chocolate cake Partake in activities that are not conducive to eating. Join a singing class, take up oil painting or gardening - cultivate a hobby.</div><div><br /></div><div>10. If you have to snack, try this. Put your hand in the packet of wafers and take out a fistful. Finish off whatever you get your hands on - and that's it.</div><div><br /></div><div>11. Don't stack up on fattening yummy foods. Its easiest to control food intake if you just don't have it around. If you feel like chocolate cake, buy a pastry so it doesn't hang out in the refrigerator all week till you polish it off. Similarly, don't keep tubs of ice cream in the freezer. Buy a cup or two and eat it when the mood strikes.</div><div><br /></div><div>12. When you reach for the refrigerator, stop and question yourself. Are you just bored or are you really hungry? In most of the cases the answer will be the former.</div><div><br /></div><div>13. Stick little post-it notes on the refrigerator saying, Stop! Or Reach for a glass of water.</div><div><br /></div><div>14. Buy clothes a size smaller and work towards fitting into them.</div><div><br /></div><div>15. Don't beat yourself up or lose heart just because you've slipped up a few times. You need to keep a positive outlook and keep encouraging yourself.</div><div><br /></div><div>16. Visualise how you will look without those extra kilograms.</div><div><br /></div><div>17. Take up yoga.</div><div><br /></div><div>18. Find new and different ways to measure how far you've come. Don't just stick to the weighing scale. Scout around in your cupboard and try on old clothes that are big for you're excellent motivation.</div><div><br /></div><div>19. Find a partner to work out with or to support you. Enlist the help of a friend and go for activities that don't involve snacking. Take up tennis, go cycling don't just meet friends over lunch or dinner.</div><div><br /></div><div>20. Get motivated. No one is going to lose your weight for you. You're going to have to do it all by yourself, and if the motivation doesn't come from within you, no amount of friends and family pushing you to lose weight is going to help.</div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-92044374236633372010-04-03T02:59:00.000-07:002010-04-03T03:18:52.530-07:00Nepal PM Says Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev A Cultural Bridge Between India & Nepal<div>Yoga guru Ramdev is a symbol of friendship between Nepal and India because he is using Indian yoga to bridge the divide between the two nations, Nepal Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said here Wednesday.</div><div><br /></div><div>"Yoga guru Ramdev is a symbol of friendship between the two South Asian countries. One which is the air energy, which is referred to as chi, or ki, or prana, and then there's also the Kundalini Shakti energy or the energy of cosmic consciousness. If the sadhak has his third eye opened, he can actually see the prana particles in the air. There are lots of tiny swirling comets that seem to wink in and out of existence in all the materials around us. These tiny swirling comets are prana particles. The prana or Chi energy needs to be directed and exaggerated by human thought. One can change it, direct it and also alter it.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/S0CFY6mYB5I/AAAAAAAABxI/4clF8C91qOI/s1600-h/kundalini-yoga-wallpapers-photo.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/S0CFY6mYB5I/AAAAAAAABxI/4clF8C91qOI/s400/kundalini-yoga-wallpapers-photo.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422480614447646610" border="0" /></a>The power of Kundalini Shakti is very different because the sadhak cannot tell it what to do. The sadhak can only request the Shakti to rouse, but its impossible to control the Shakti energy. The Kundalini Shakti possesses its own intelligence that is infinitely wiser than any human being.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Beneficial or Adverse Effects:</span><br />The kundalini process is usually unrecognized and unexpected, and often results in apprehension, anxiety, panic and fear: "utterly paralyzing waves of panic/anxiety for which there is no obvious cause" as Yoga guru, Sartak Raje puts it.<br /><br />The traditional attitude is that one should not seek kundalini unless one is "pure". Certainly it would seem unwise to unleash great energies within the body if they cannot be controlled, and it is always better to guard against tampering with something that is not fully understood. Care must be taken while treading this path, as when shakti climbs up the different chakras, it is in a wild state and it can encounter the demonic aspects of consciousness.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Benefits:</span><br />* If practiced regularly, Kundalini can strengthen the nervous system, balance the glandular system, and harness the energy of the mind and emotion as well as the body.<br />* Better functioning of your body :Kundalini Yoga, in combination with the right lifestyle changes, will put your digestive, nervous, lymphatic, cardiovascular, glandular and all other systems in proper working order.<br />* Emotional balance: This attribute helps you to be the master of your life and not allow subjective mental states to cloud your ability to make clear decisions and act in accordance with your true values.<br />* Increases sensory awareness:The ability to touch, taste, feel and see with sensitivity, and to put your perceptions into the framework of knowledge you can use.<br />* Enhances intuitive power :The sixth sense is a gift we all posses. Kundalini Yoga works on your higher brain centers, and gives you the nuance to compute the particulars of any situation and to arrive at a set of certainties you can bet on. Stronger intuition also alerts us of dangers and we do not attract negative forces.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Kundalini in the world's religions</span><br />Kundalini as a spiritual experience is thought to have parallels in many of the mystical traditions of the world's great religions. Many factors point to the universality of the phenomenon. The early Christians might have referred to the concept as 'pneuma', and there are some recent parallels in contemporary Christian charismatic 'Holy Ghost' phenomena. Religious studies also note parallels in Quakerism, Shakerism, Judaic davening (torso-rocking prayer), the swaying zikr and whirling dervish of Islam, the quivering of Eastern Orthodox hesychast, the flowing movements of tai chi, the ecstatic shamanic dance etc.<br /><br />There have been many examples of great men whose Kundalini was awakened. Gandhiji and Einstein are two examples.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-51701768894413953992009-12-26T09:57:00.000-08:002009-12-26T10:02:39.344-08:00Kundalini Yoga: Awaken to a New Form of Yoga & Energy<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SzZOzv2_6dI/AAAAAAAABuI/Y6T9U9YvWC0/s1600-h/kundalini-yoga-wallpaers-photo-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SzZOzv2_6dI/AAAAAAAABuI/Y6T9U9YvWC0/s400/kundalini-yoga-wallpaers-photo-1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419605852514413010" border="0" /></a>Kundalini means kund (depth) and alini(awakening/ energy). It translates into the vast resource of energy within all of us, lying deep inside, waiting to be awakened. The only thing any layperson would know about Kundalini yoga is the fallacious concept that is meant to awaken the sexual prowess. In this powerful age of branding, it was promoted as such. And in the process, it got shrouded in awe, fear with a cloak of mystery.<br /><br />Kundalini arousal, particularly partial arousal, is more prevalent than usually imagined. It is a process that is more commonly addressed in occult/esoteric circles than scientific writings; indeed it could be said that medical science shows little appreciation of, nor understanding of, kundalini.<br /><br />"In Sanskrit, Kundalini literally means, 'That which is coiled'. This coiled serpent is believed to be lying at the base of our spine and can spring awake when activated by spiritual disciplines. Here, the spiritual discipline being, practicing Kundalini Yoga. A poetic way of describing the word 'kundalini' is "the curl of the lock of hair of the beloved". It is a metaphor describing the flow of energy and consciousness which already exists within individuals."<br /><br />Although Kundalini is very much a physical form of yoga, the main benefit is derived from the inner experience. Most popularly known as the 'Yoga of awareness', Kundalini yoga awakens the unlimited potential already existing in all human beings. When this energy is awakened in the body, it gives the individual enhanced intuition and mental clarity and creative potential.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SzZO0F6Tx8I/AAAAAAAABuQ/J3OtC0SNENU/s1600-h/kundalini-yoga-wallpaers-photo-2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SzZO0F6Tx8I/AAAAAAAABuQ/J3OtC0SNENU/s400/kundalini-yoga-wallpaers-photo-2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419605858433877954" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">When and where does Kundalini start?</span><br /><br />Spontaneous Kundalini arousal whether full or partial is often associated with a history of meditation, yoga or prayer. The energy release begins in the lower part of the body and moves upwards. It often starts in the feet, but many say that it starts with the lower chakra that is located near the perineum. The order and progression of the energy through the chakras varies with each individual.<br /><br />This internal transfer of energy, which can be extremely powerful, is accompanied by many different feelings, usually new to the recipient and is therefore bewildering or even frightening.<br /><br />There are many ways to awaken the kundalini, the sexual path is just one of them. The many ways are Hatha yoga, Raja yoga, Bhakti yoga, Gyan yoga and the path of tantra Kundalini Chakras.<br /><br />A chakra is thought to be an energy node in the human body. The seven main chakras are described as being aligned in an ascending column from the base of the spine to the top of the head. The chakras are thought to encourage the physical body and to be associated with interactions of both a physical and mental nature. They are considered as prana, which is thought to flow among them along pathways called nadis. The seven chakras reflect how the unified consciousness of man is divided to manage different aspects of earthly life.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-51066538551097098102009-11-26T10:01:00.000-08:002009-11-26T10:25:30.260-08:00'Better Sex Through Yoga' 3 DVD Set: Beginners, Intermediate, AdvancedFor a Stronger, Sexier, more confident You. From Science of Justice - 'Namaha' is a physical action expressing that 'you are superior to me in all qualities and in every way'..<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SuHsN4CG5eI/AAAAAAAABfg/l_UbFCilQUI/s1600-h/image001.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 246px; height: 248px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SuHsN4CG5eI/AAAAAAAABfg/l_UbFCilQUI/s400/image001.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395853551690245602" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">Worldly Benefits</span>:<br />By doing Namaskar to a deity or a Saint, unknowingly their virtues and capabilities are impressed upon our minds. Consequently we start emulating them, thus changing ourselves for the better.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Spiritual Benefits:<br /></span>Increase in humility and reduction of ego / Enhancement in the spiritual emotion of surrender and gratitude / Gaining the Sattva component and faster spiritual progress. We receive the highest amount of Sattva component from the posture (mudra) of Namaskar. By doing Namaskar to Deities or Saints we receive subtle frequencies emitted by them, e.g. frequencies of Sattva or Bliss.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">How does one do Namaskar to an individual of the same age group?</span><br />When meeting someone of the same age-group do Namaskar by joining the fingers and placing tips of the thumbs on the Anahat chakra (at the centre of the chest). This type of Namaskarincreases the spiritual emotion of humility in the embodied soul. Sattva frequencies from the universe are attracted by the fingers (which act as an antenna) and are then transmitted to the entire body through the thumbs which have awakened the Anahat chakra. This activates the soul energy of the embodied soul. In addition, by doing Namaskar in this manner to each other, frequencies of blessings are also transmitted.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">What is correct method & science of doing Namaskar to God?</span><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SuHsOFFswKI/AAAAAAAABfo/jQTwE3tA9eY/s1600-h/image002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 338px; height: 234px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SuHsOFFswKI/AAAAAAAABfo/jQTwE3tA9eY/s400/image002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395853555194970274" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">A.</span> 'While paying obeisance to God, bring the palms together.<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">1.</span> The fingers should be held loose (not straight and rigid) while joining the hands or palms.<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">2.</span> The fingers should be kept close to each other without leaving any space between them.<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">3.</span> The fingers should be kept away from the thumbs.<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">4.</span> The inner portion of the palms should not touch each other and there should be some space between them.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">B. </span>After joining the hands one should bow and bring the head forward..<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">C.</span> While tilting the headforward, one should place the thumbs at the mid-brow region, i.e. at the point between the eyebrows and try to concentrate on the feet of the Deity.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">D.</span> After that, instead of bringing the folded hands down immediately, they should be placed on the mid-chest region for a minute in such way that the wrists touch the chest; then only should the hands be brought down.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Underlying Science in this action</span><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SuHsOuk48OI/AAAAAAAABfw/pmX7V6ppkQE/s1600-h/image003.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 415px; height: 215px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/SuHsOuk48OI/AAAAAAAABfw/pmX7V6ppkQE/s400/image003.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395853566331646178" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">A. </span>The fingers should not be stiff while bringing the palms together because this will lead to a decrease in Sattva component from the vital and mental sheaths and thus increase the raja component in them. By keeping the fingers relaxed, the subtlest Sattva component will get activated. With the strength of this energy, embodied souls are able to fight powerful distressing energies.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">B.</span> In the Namaskar posture, the joined fingers act as an antenna to assimilate the Chaitanya (Divine consciousness) or the Energy transmitted by a Deity. While joining the palms, the fingers must touch each other because leaving space between the fingers will result in accumulation of energy in that space. This energy will be immediately transmitted in various directions; therefore the seeker's body will lose the benefit of this potent energy.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">C.</span> About the space to be maintained between the palms:<br />For a seeker at the primary level, it is advisable to leave space between the palms; it is not necessary for a seeker at an advanced level to leave space between the palms.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">D.</span> After joining the palms, bow a little. This posture puts pressure on the navel and activates the five vital energies situated there. Activation of these vital energies in the body makes it sensitive to accepting sattvik frequencies. This later awakens the 'Atma shakti' (i.e. soul energy of an embodied soul). And later, Bhav is awakened. This enables the body to accept in large measures the Chaitanya emitted by the Deity.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">E. </span>Touch the thumbs to the mid-brow region. (Please see images above..) This posture awakens the Bhav of surrender in an embodied soul, and in turn activates the appropriate subtle frequencies of Deities from the Universe. They enter through the 'Adnya chakra' (Sixth of the 7 chakras in the Kundalini) of the embodied soul and settle in the space parallel to it at the back interior of the head. In this space the openings to all the three channels converge; namely, the Moon, the Central and the Sun channels. Due to the movement of these subtler frequencies in this space, the Central Channel is activated. Consequently it facilitates the speedy transmission of these frequencies throughout the body, leading to purification of both the gross and subtle bodies at the same time.<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br />F.</span> After doing Namaskar, to completely imbibe the Chaitanya of the Deity (that has entered the hands by now), instead of bringing the folded hands down immediately, place them on the mid-chest region in such a way that the wrists touch the chest.<br /><br />The 'Anahat chakra' is located at the centre of the chest. Akin to the Adnya chakra, the activity of the Anahat chakra is also to absorb the Sattva frequencies. By touching the wrists to the chest, the Anahat chakra is activated and it helps in absorbing more of the Sattva component.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Effect of this Posture</span><br />By doing Namaskar in this manner, the Deity's Chaitanya is absorbed to a greater extent by the body, as compared to other methods of doing Namaskar. This gives maximum distress to negative energies. The negative energies that have manifested in a person are unable to touch their thumbs at the mid-brow region in Namaskar. (The negative energies are subtle. But at times they enter an individual's body and manifest it.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28741808.post-28482580206085428772009-05-26T11:05:00.000-07:002009-05-26T11:24:30.611-07:00Best Yoga Exercise Positions, Poses India for Yoga LoversYoga is an ancient Indian body of knowledge that dates back more than 5000 years ago. Tips For Meditation in Busy LifeIn these troubling times, many people are focused on what's not working and what they do not have. With the pressures of bills, the job or the job hunt, the practices we most need to combat stress are the most neglected. We don't have time to exercise, to connect with friends or to meditation.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCJBkvwI/AAAAAAAAAb0/ITJH-XD6rtw/s1600-h/meditate.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 362px; height: 359px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCJBkvwI/AAAAAAAAAb0/ITJH-XD6rtw/s320/meditate.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317583515358117634" border="0" /></a>Meditation is one such thing. We don't have time to neglect personal maintenance. And although research on meditation is still scattered thousands of "average" people can attest to the power of meditation in reducing pain, stress and depression while increasing their ability to focus and respond to challenges.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCWO-9iI/AAAAAAAAAb8/IQIMkFTyIvg/s1600-h/42-20734737.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 358px; height: 334px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCWO-9iI/AAAAAAAAAb8/IQIMkFTyIvg/s320/42-20734737.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317583518904022562" border="0" /></a>Meditation comes in many forms. You can focus on your breath, a single thought, or a mantra to clear your mind. You can also do guided meditation focusing your breath to different parts of your body, or guiding your imagination to a peaceful place. A great way to reduce stress, meditation is essentially about strengthening the relationship between your mind and body.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCRj1uiI/AAAAAAAAAcM/WUPSH6IwiH8/s1600-h/42-17788891.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 296px; height: 361px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCRj1uiI/AAAAAAAAAcM/WUPSH6IwiH8/s320/42-17788891.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317583517649320482" border="0" /></a><br />If sitting with your eyes closed and trying to think of nothing sounds overwhelming, try to meditation for a minute. Simply sitting and breathing for only 60 seconds can really revitalize your brain.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCsHDSII/AAAAAAAAAcU/BBrUxS9fGKo/s1600-h/42-17779746.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 365px; height: 385px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCsHDSII/AAAAAAAAAcU/BBrUxS9fGKo/s320/42-17779746.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317583524776331394" border="0" /></a><br />Interested in trying meditation, but still don't think you have the time? Beginning meditation isn't as difficult as you might think. So, without taking any more of your time, here are five ways to fit much-needed meditation into your schedule.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCeD2cVI/AAAAAAAAAcE/SJwMIGkzuMg/s1600-h/42-16611268.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 310px; height: 351px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvaCeD2cVI/AAAAAAAAAcE/SJwMIGkzuMg/s320/42-16611268.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317583521004810578" border="0" /></a><br /><ul><li> Keep it short. You don't have to set aside half an hour; you can start to feel the benefits with even a few minutes of regular meditation. Most advice on meditation for beginners suggests that you start with only 5 minutes.</li><li> Have a focus. If you don't think you can focus while sitting with your eyes closed, it's okay to focus on an intricate object or a candle flame. Or you can close your eyes and listen to music. The important part for beginners is to be in the moment, rather than thinking about your to-do list.</li><li> Have a regular time - or take time right before you go to bed. Even if you don't go to bed at a regular time, you can always make time right before you sleep. Your sleepiness might even help your meditation, clearing your mind. And your meditation will certainly help you relax so that you fall asleep faster and sleep better.</li><li> Try some quick exercise and stretching beforehand. If it's hard to shift gears from paying bills to meditating, try a very quick exercise routine. It can be as a short as a few push ups and then holding some basic stretches for 10-20 seconds each.</li><li> 5. Take meditation time where you find it. After a full day of work, heading to my three-hour evening class (and then to helping a friend with a late-night art project), I realized my best bet for mediation time was the train. Of course it wasn't the best of surroundings, and I was distracted. But I sat down, meditated to the screech of the train instead of to music and left the train much more relaxed and energetic than I had entered it. Take what you can get!</li></ul>As for particular technique (position, chanting, breathing exercises or other aids), there is plenty of advice on the web. I prefer to sit cross-legged, but not in Lotus position, with my back against a wall for support. I close my eyes and focus on taking deep breaths, in through my nose and out through my mouth... and I let go of my worries.<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvazNrFwKI/AAAAAAAAAcc/jBcESXHrYmY/s1600-h/42-19063467.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 309px; height: 356px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rd0_KdrRxb0/ScvazNrFwKI/AAAAAAAAAcc/jBcESXHrYmY/s320/42-19063467.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317584358419579042" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Courtsey: Odemagazine.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1
